Wedding & Bridal Engagements

Engagement sessions have come a long way in the past few years. More and more photographers want to get to know a couple on a more intimate level, and an engagement session is a great way to determine the chemistry between couple & photog. Engagement sessions aren’t without work, however. The couple should plan their outfits carefully, decide on a location that is easy to get to, but not overused, and should find inspiration in magazines or the internet. This session is about you, the couple—it should reflect who you are together. I always recommend shooting close to sunset, partially because its convenient to most people who work, and it provides wonderful light to work with. Clothes should be something you’re comfortable wearing. Don’t believe that you need to get dressed to the nines for your engagement session, that’s what your wedding is for. Now, I’m not saying you should wear your favorite hunting t-shirt & board shorts.

A location is another big factor in determining how well your photos turn out. I can take you to the same spots I’ve taken other clients, but you shouldn’t want that. I hate to say, but many couples want me to plan the entire shin-dig and that’s fine if you just want a few snap shots. If you want killer images, lets get involved in your session. I don’t charge consulting fees-ever. So if you’d like to have a few sit downs and show me some images you like, or give me directions to an awesome location, I’m game.

Now guys, I’ve been in your position before. Its not as bad as other guys would make it out to be. If I sense you’re not into the session, quality is going to suffer and your bride-to be isn’t going to be pleased. The easiest way to go about this is to be more involved - flip through a GQ and use it for inspiration on how to stand and places to shoot.

In the Corpus Christi area, Engagement sessions run $175 and come with one 5x7 prints & two 8x10 prints (which would make great presents for your parents - hint hint.) Sessions typically last around an hour, but don’t have a time limit. If we’re getting some great shots, or stumble upon a fantastic location, we'll keep going. I love what I do and if I’m loving the shots we’re getting, I’m going to keep pushing you two. Finally, your shots will be edited, uploaded to my website for you to share with friends & family, and burned to a disc for your safe-keeping and print-making.

An engagement session is typically the first step in your wedding photography quest. The session should be about you and your fiancé - either a special place you share together, perhaps the location of your proposal, or first date, or even just a place you enjoy spending time. Most likely this will be the first formal photo session the two of you will encounter together.

I always suggest wearing comfortable clothing, but something that is still nice. I like to shoot engagement sessions later in the day, but by no means are we limited to that. I do travel, and if our schedules are right, shooting in another location is not an issue. Engagement sessions come with one digital file, one 8x10 print and two 5x7 prints, as well as web resolution* copies of the images on disc.
