I am here to capture your wedding day. I am your photojournalist - your eyes to remind you of the things you saw, and to show you the things you didn't. I devote myself to your wedding day. I have no set time limits because special moments can happen any time. In one of our pre-wedding meetings, we'll discuss a wedding day timeline, and when and where you need me.
I don't believe in limiting (or predicting) how few or how many images your wedding will generate, but I do believe in hand-picking the very best for you. Each wedding is different, and each wedding party & family is different. Although I can't say how many shots I may take, I do venture to say that every shot you get will be the best. I prefer to visit with you about a month before the wedding to go through your ideas and photographs you require and discuss any special needs or changes to our original plan. I also like to double check all information regarding the church, reception venue, addresses and times. I like to check for suitable and special areas where group shots and individual couple shots can be taken before the ceremony takes place because I know how important it is to get photos of the bridal party acting their 'best'.
I grew up learning to shoot film and still feel comfortable doing so. Since about 2007, the changing wedding photography industry has become flush with advanced digital techniques, and rightfully so - digital allows couples more bang for their buck. I joined the digital professional community in late 2009 and have to admit that it has helped me accelerate my learning. I have set a goal for every wedding I photograph in 2011 to include at least one roll of film in my work. Yes, it takes some additional time to prepare it and you're only given one shot - but I feel film complements digital photography well.
I'm very open to suggestion and ideas - I don't want you to ever feel like your ideas aren't heard. I love to listen to my clients.
I love to travel and do so any chance I get. I'd love to come photograph your Houston, San Antonio, Austin, (insert any Texas location here...) wedding. No really, I have standard rates for weddings in / around most major Texas cities and include all travel costs. I like to make a family trip out of my weddings to other Texas destinations, so a majority of the time, couples get the benefit of having my wife photograph alongside me. I also love shooting weddings of all sizes. From Lyndie & Damon's two guest beach wedding ceremony to Maribal & Stephen's three-hundred-plus wedding reception, I love weddings of all sizes.
I am constantly evolving.
My style has changed since I began learning the intricies of photographing weddings, however one thing remains steady - I am a photojournalist. I work to capture people, emotion, things and actions as they happen - without interference. Very rarely (with the exception of formal photos of the bridal party & family) will I pose a group for a photo. I like to be up front about that. Table shots are not my forté. That doesn’t mean I won’t photograph a group of people who are posing for the camera, however.
When I first became interested in photographing weddings I had one camera body and two lenses and loved what I shot. Then I started photographing more and got some additional equipment and loved being able to zoom - unfortunately in my eyes the zoom removed much of what I loved about the results to start with - so I’m back to utilizing prime lenses (and zooming with my feet instead of with my hand.)
I learned photography through film and trial & error. I still shoot digital in a similar fashion.
I enjoy couples that have visions and ideas of their own. The images brides (and some grooms) see in magazines provide a false sense of capability - magazine shoots take lots of time to get nailed down. Many of the featured weddings on blogs also are from couples who value the additional time that quality photos take. I like to know how serious both of you are about portraits and creating spectacular imagery; if I see a killer photo in the making I want to know if I should grab you two and run or let it pass.
Once everything is said and done I start the tough work - I cull images and do basic correction to exposure, color & cropping. As I go through the images, I also select anywhere from ten to thirty images that I consider my favorites from the set. This ‘favorite’ set of images will become your teaser, and usually I will post it to my facebook page as well as my website. Teaser sets usually undergo additional processing, such as the images on this page. Although the processing creates more ‘hip’ images, I prefer to deliver a regular edit, since in ten years there may be another processing fad, and I don’t want your images to appear dated. If your wedding features a specifi c tone (western, vintage, 80s, etc.) I can create a custom edit for your wedding and include that as well in your delivered images.
