Few other moments in peoples’ lives contain as much emotion as one’s wedding day. By nature, I am a photojournalist. I want to tell a story about your wedding day, from beginning to end. Engagement & bridal sessions are the prologue to your wedding day. Because I want to be able to tell your story, I don’t set strict time limits on you.
My day rates include my time for the entire day. If you want me to photograph a special family tradition at 3am on your wedding day, I’ll be there. Granted, I’ll need to get some more sleep later in the day (as you most likely will as well.) I like to discuss with you your schedule of events; when will you have your hair & makeup done? how will you get from your house to the ceremony? where will you be getting ready & dressed and what time? will you hold a brunch with your bridesmaids? will the groomsmen be getting ready somewhere together? will they be grabbing a cold one before the wedding? when is the ceremony? where is the reception? do you want to stop along the way for photos? will you be having a grand exit? where will—you get the idea. I try to develop a storyboard to tell your wedding day in still images.
Part of being a photojournalist is that I’m there, but I should be invisible. I like getting peoples’ natural expressions- candid shots of your friends, family, guests and yourself. I typically don’t do “table shots” or gather guests into groups and photograph them. However, I do like to follow you (the bride) and the groom around and photograph as you meet guests and family at your reception. As your photographer, I will take direction from you and the environment . If you’re not interested in sneaking off for a few intimate shots of the two of you, I won’t push you. I will let you know if a shot won’t turn out well and make suggestions on how we could accomplish your vision.
I arm myself with an arsenal of equipment for every wedding I photograph. If I feel I will require additional equipment - I get it. I may only use one camera and one lens the entire evening (as I do many times at the Courtyard at Gaslight Square) or I may be shooting with two cameras, several remote flashes and multiple lenses. Its all about the situation. I love what I do and have never headed to a wedding while thinking “do I have to do this?” I want to make sure you have a lasting memory of your special day. I want to photograph your wedding.
