Food Photography | Hester’s Summer
I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.
In the midst of the pandemic, we all know how much restaurants were struggling to adapt to the ever changing guidelines which took a toll on business. To keep their marketing fresh (especially through social media) Hester’s Cafe wanted to get a few updated shots of their more popular dishes for the summer. This food photography shoot proved to be tougher than normal because we were working hard to practice social distancing measures while also wearing masks. The team at Hester’s is always amazing to work with and gave us the entire back section of their Lamar Park location.
I lit this food photography session with a simple setup - utilizing window light for a rear key and a brella-box for front fill. Hester’s Cafe always does a great job plating their food, so I didn’t have to do much food styling at all. Anytime I’m photographing food, I always like to have some extra ingredients brought out on the side so I can swap out sad looking elements.
Once we had wrapped our shoot, I decided to do a few little fun shots of their delectable waffles. Instead of the softer, enveloping light, I went with my Flashpoint AD200 Pro and the rectangular speedlight head to do some harsher backlighting for a different look.
As much as I enjoy eating food, I think I love food photography more. Regardless of where your restaurant is in the Coastal Bend, I’d love to help your restaurant create additional content, whether it’s interior photography of your dining space or food photography of your menu. Hit me up so we can start a conversation today.
