Food Photography | Hester’s Holiday
Holiday food photography that will make your mouth water! Hester’s Cafe wanted to push their sweet holiday options - they make some fantastic cakes, cheesecakes, pies, and gorgeous (and delicious) decorated sugar cookies. The project brief wanted to focus on the “Holiday Table” to create some content photography leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas orders of their baked goods. For this, we shot at Hester’s Six Points location which gave us access to some of the props and fixtures within Bleu Frog Mercantile. Anytime I have a chance to shoot in a prop-lovers dream I’m ecstatic!
Jason & Hester both brought out the large collection of desserts and worked on styling the setup with a little guidance from me in camera. This is one of the reasons I love wireless tethering my Canon 6D2 with my iPad using Cascable. We were able to have a live view from the camera for instant feedback when we moved dishes around. For this shoot, I utilized natural light spilling in from behind and to the left of our setup and did a little bit of fill using a brella-box with a 1/8 CTO gel to provide some “homey” warmth.
We finished up the food photography shoot with a quick setup of Hester’s sandwich tray options (to get ready for office Christmas catering).
While a food photography shoot like this is a lot of work to prepare (for the restaurant) it doesn’t take much time. Including setup and shooting, we were in and out within 90 minutes - the result of a food photography session like this is years of photography content that can be used in store, on print advertising, and social media.
