Non-Profit Event Photography | Heartwalk 2022
For years now I have loved donating my time to cover the American Heart Association Heartwalk - a very worthy cause that raises substantial funding for heart-related research and care. This year was one of the best years, by far. The weather could not have been nicer this early in October (for south Texas that is.)
This 5k walk begins at one of our biggest downtown Corpus Christi landmarks - Whataburger Field (Home of the Corpus Christi Hooks Minor League baseball team.) It then heads towards Corpus Christi Bay via the Watergardens and then proceeds down the seawall with beautiful views and gentle breezes. This year, participants headed back towards the finish line via Chaparral Street and then a final lap around the stadium. The AHA team is a wonderful group of people that dedicate every day to educating about heart-related issues and advocating for funding to help research and treatments.
One of the big purposes of photographing a non-profit event like Heartwalk is to capture images of participants’ emotions. I prefer shooting candid photos at all events, but for 5k walks like this, I try to catch participants’ attention in order to provide a mix of ‘posed’ and candid shots. Another reason non-profits want photos taken at their events is to provide an ongoing record - not shown in this gallery are the dozens of photos highlighting sponsor logos, mentions, signage throughout the event, placement of tents, tables, etc.
If your Corpus Christi or South Texas charity / non-profit has an event coming up in 2023 and is interested in receiving non-profit event photography coverage donated, fill out my Donation Request form.
