Home of the Week | 1801 Ocean Drive

After photographing real estate for 12 years, little patterns develop in where I photograph homes - from the general areas down to the neighborhoods and even the streets that I shoot on. One pattern that I’ve picked up on is how I may end up photographing the same house multiple times while not shooting any of the surrounding homes. I don’t know exactly why it happens, but again, it interests me.

In this case, my home of the week for the first week of August happens to be a home that I photographed back in November 2017 for the January 2018 Open House feature of The Bend Magazine. I love getting to see a house over time - it gives me a chance to see whether anything new has been renovated, but it also shows me that I’m always learning. My techniques change over time as I learn new tricks and new editing methods, and I enjoy seeing the growth in myself.

This Ocean Drive home is very recognizable from the front - a very unique exposed-beam upper patio and pergola entrance, limestone exterior and ground to roof windows transport this home straight from the Texas hill country. The wide-open interior spaces are all well adorned with heavy timbers and classic wood trim without overwhelming. A very unique interior staircase brings you from the ground floor up to the second-floor which includes an office/bedroom as well as the primary bedroom and bath en suite. Downstairs bedrooms are arranged in jack-and-jill fashion with an oversized full bathroom connecting both. The kitchen has multiple island workstations and, although it is very large, the kitchen triangle is quite concise and designed for someone who enjoys cooking. The very open downstairs living space is flexible and can be designed to serve multiple purposes. The home is a hefty 5,100 sqft on a little over a quarter acre lot which includes several dedicated outdoor spaces: a front yard, back yard, central courtyard with swim spa, and large rear driveway.

Homes like these remind me of why I enjoy real estate photography so much - the ability to capture such a beautiful home in order to help find its next owners is a very rewarding experience.
